degenerative disc disease

This spinal condition comes from the normal wear-and-tear process of aging. As we age, our discs lose some of their flexibility, elasticity and shock-absorbing ability. Degenerative disc disease may become problematic if the disc height is reduced or if the disc becomes thin and stiffens.

Degenerative Disc Disease usually begins with a decrease in the water content of the nucleus pulposus and can lead to tears in the annulus fibrosis.

Disc Degeneration can lead to bulging discs, bone spurs or osteophytes, or loss of disc height and alignment. This can cause nerve impingement, which may result in pain.
